In some versions of the Bible, red letters are used to focus the reader’s attention that those words are the words of Jesus.  Jesus spoke the Word.  Jesus is the Word.  The full expression of God to man… He speaks through scripture, through the Holy Spirit, through His creation, and through the counsel of His body, the Church.  It happens all the time.  We’re just too often too busy or too disconnected to hear it.  But as we journey through life, He is speaking.  We desperately need to find and create margin in our lives… to create the space to hear and respond to His voice because the two most important questions we can ask and answer are … “What is God saying to me?”  and “What am I going to do about it?”… This is the essence of what Jesus was saying in Mark 1:15 when He said… “The time has come. The Kingdom of God is near.  Repent and believe the good news!”  Repent and Believe… the imperatives that confront us and call us to hear God’s voice and have our lives transformed by it… To have a change of heart and mind followed by a corresponding set of actions that pursue the Creator’s will.

God wants to break into our world… most people skim right over those moments and miss it… My Red Letter Life is one disciple’s journey to hear and respond to the the words of Jesus as they break into what Mike Breen calls the “kairos moments of life” (Building a Discipling Culture, ch 1)…  to see the trajectory of life altered and follow into the life that God intended when His creation became personal…

I’ve never been an avid writer.  I’ve never had success at journaling… never had a blog… quite frankly, I just don’t think I’m that thoughtful… MyRedLetterLife is just my attempt to find a way to help me slow down, create some mental and spiritual margin and reflect on what God wants to say and do in, with, and through my life… My hope is that it will become a valuable outlet for me and that I will find myself drawn in to a new way of reflecting… I also hope that it might become an expression that you find valuable from time to time… that something might resonate with you… that you might see common threads in our journeys, or be challenged by something I quote, or be encouraged by something that is shared… I don’t know that anything here will be meaningful for you… but perhaps something in this humble offering will help you on your journey…

So what’s God saying to you and what are you going to do about it?
